Sherman, the county seat of Grayson County, is located approximately 65 miles north of Dallas. In recent years Sherman, with a population of about 40,000 residents, has evolved into one of the major employment centers in North Texas. In addition to employers such as Tyson, Emerson-Fisher Controls, Texas Instruments,  etc., Finisar Corporation (an optical communications components firm) will be opening its manufacturing plant in Sherman in 2018, bringing hundreds of jobs to the area.

Austin College, a four-year residential college and the oldest institution of higher learning in Texas (since 1849) is located in Sherman. The quality of life is further enhanced as a great arts community with the Sherman Symphony Orchestra; Sherman Community Players; the Sherman Museum; and much more.  Opportunities for community arts and music events include: Boots N Bands, Hot Summer Nights Music, Lights on the Lake (Independence Day celebration), Sherman Arts Fest, and Snowflake Festival and Christmas Parade.
